About Me

Hi friend!

This is most definitely not me being like Toby Keith's song "I Wanna Talk About Me" but I do want to introduce myself.

I grew up in the mountains of eastern Kentucky and am so proud to call that my home, no matter where else I may roam. My cousins and I grew up riding four wheelers and doing anything we could get by with until our grandmother hollered that supper was ready. We grew up fearing God and that switch tree in the backyard (iykyk). I honestly can't remember a year that my grandmother didn't raise a garden and I'm so thankful she took the time to teach me how to do the same. Our childhood was so great because we had such strong people raising us and giving us those amazing memories. It didn't matter how many times we each moved, we could always go to our grandparents 'Crooked Little House,' which was our home base.

The name "the Crooked Little House" actually came from my Granny.  Now that she has dementia, she repeatedly asks where I live and when I tell her, she says "in your crooked little house with your crooked little dogs." She grins the sweetest smile each time she tells me that. If you're not from Appalachia, you might take what she said the wrong way but please know she meant it out of the upmost love. It means we're all a little crazy and the house isn't perfect but its ours and its made up of love and hard work. I honestly wanted to get that tattoo'd the first time she said that to me and then I thought maybe I could do something else to honor her memory instead of a tattoo ha!

Fast forward to now and when I'm not working my 9-5, I'm normally out taking photographs. Lately, it's felt like such a disgrace that I have hard drives full of travel photography and boxes full of family recipes but I haven't even shared them with anyone. So I started The Appalachian Transplant Recipe Club where every month I share the recipes, the art, and some fun stuff too.

It's my hope that you feel God's love and the mountains breath in each piece of mail you receive from me. I have a lot of ideas for this little business you're supporting so I humbly ask you stick around with me as we grow together this year.

Talk soon,

Maci
